Method and sources

Understand the inputs and limits before using a result.

The word tools match your letters and patterns against an open-source English dictionary. An unscrambler returns words made from some or all supplied letters; an anagram uses every letter. A blank tile is represented by a question mark.

Pick the tool for the problem

Use the unscrambler for a rack of letters, the anagram solver for exact rearrangements, and the Jumble solver when the answer length is known. The Wordle helper combines green positions, yellow letters and excluded letters. The pattern finder accepts known positions and missing letters. Word lists group entries by length or a letter condition.

Example

Letters TSAER can make STARE, TEARS and RATES. A shorter word may also be valid in the unscrambler, while an exact anagram must use all five letters. If a letter occurs twice in the answer, the rack or wildcard must supply both copies.

Dictionary and game validity

The dictionary is built from the MIT-licensed word-list package with common-word flags derived from GCIDE. It is an English word list, not an official Scrabble, Words With Friends or Wordle answer list. Some results are rare, regional, inflected or unsuitable for a particular game. Check the game's accepted dictionary before playing.

Privacy and corrections

Letter searches run in your browser. Shareable search links may include your letter query. To report a missing or unexpected result, send the letters, selected filters, page URL and the dictionary source you expected. The site is independent of the owners of the named word games.
