How to use the Wordle helper
- After a guess, type any green letters into the matching boxes at the top.
- List the yellow letters in the yellow box. They must appear somewhere in the answer.
- List the grey letters in the grey box. They are excluded, unless the same letter was also green or yellow in another guess (a repeated letter), in which case the solver keeps it.
- Optional: tell the solver where a yellow letter is not, like "a2" for an A that was yellow in the second box. This shrinks the list a lot.
Picking the next guess
Early on, choose words that test new common letters (E, A, R, O, T, L, I, S, N) rather than words that fit the greens. With two or three guesses left and a short list, pick the word that splits the remaining candidates best; usually the one with the most distinct, common letters. Highlighted words are common and are far more likely to be the answer than grey ones; Wordle's answer list is about 2,300 ordinary words.
Good starting words
CRANE, SLATE, TRACE, CRATE, SALET and ROATE all test five distinct common letters. Any of them is fine. The second guess matters more than the first: use it to test the letters your first word did not.
Hard mode
In hard mode every guess must use the greens in place and include the yellows. This solver's results already obey that rule, so every word on the list is a legal hard-mode guess.
